About this deal

Should I try to match both of sets of 3 - 140mm fans against similar fan curves ? maybe on the same fan hub ? The Fractal Design Torrent Case is an interesting case and I can see a lot of potentials as far as Modding goes. What I see here is a large case that has removable panels on each side with clear tempered glass on the side. The bottom front and top bezels of this case are all made from the same ABS plastic material. The finish of the plastic is not smooth but rather matte. Being white, everything that touches this case will leave a mark. So if you plan to use this case for Modding I would recommend painting it or at least clear coating the bezels. If you are extremely careful with the case then you would not have to worry about blemishes or marks. Yeah.. the "option 1" 120mm push/pull illustration could be a bit misleading. 140mm push/pull IS doable, IF you cut out the piece I mentioned... even with the somewhat beefy radiator on the Arctic 420 AIO. But that doesn't mean this case NEEDS an exhaust fan. This case scores exceedingly well in all of the non-torture GPU intensive tests including Fire strike and Blender GPU renders.

Since we reviewed the original Fractal Torrent last year we have included our results from that case as well as the new Compact model, in part because we don’t yet have any other results from our new test rig. But since the original Torrent was tested on our previous testbed (with an Intel Core i9-9900K and an RTX 2070 Super), not our new i7/ RTX 3070 Ti setup, this isn’t meant as a direct comparison.

I won’t quite say that I have grown tired of companies taking the safe route by slapping a fine mesh front panel on cases. But I admire creativity, which is what Fractal has brought to airflow-focused cases. Not only does the front panel look good, but it also performs really well, without even adding an exhaust fan. Since Intel’s 12 Gen “Alder Lake” has shaken up the desktop landscape (and taken prominent spots on our best CPUs for gaming list), we’ve updated our case testing hardware. We’re now using an Intel i7-12700KF, which is being cooled by a Noctua U12s air cooler. Our graphics card is a Gigabyte RTX 3070 Ti Gaming OC. While it makes sense to embrace airflow for your components, there would traditionally have been a noise penalty. This just isn’t as high as it once was. I like to live in the past, so let’s think of the sound emanating from your system in the 2000s! But we no longer use 80 mm CPU coolers with 5000 RPM fans, blower-style GPU coolers have become uncommon, SSDs are silent, and HDDs produced today spin in virtual silence. Again, why do we need solid front panels?

Indeed, having the bottom fans pulling air in I was inclined to believe my GPU would still have proper air at least against its bottom side, will test both ! Once the AIO fits reverting 2 fans would be a piece of cake. The Torrent Compact does technically allow for E-ATX motherboards. However, be prepared to lose out on some cable routing options if you go that route, as larger boards end up covering a portion of the routing grommets. And as we’ll see later, cable routing space is already scarce. If you want to use a large motherboard, you should opt for the larger original Torrent, or another large case instead. the Cooler Master MasterCase SL600M being the king when it comes to gpu air flow as you get 2 massive fans blowing on the gpu. but dose vary pore with a cpu tower cooler and the top is closed off mostly... so an top aio would be ideal in that case and passably mod the top panel. In that way, the Torrent has succeeded: It offers great, striking looks that balance aggression well without sacrificing modern design, and it has more cooling performance than any other case I’ve tested. Since you don’t have the option to mount a radiator to the top of the case (remember, that’s where the PSU lives), you’re limited to impractical mounting options for liquid cooling, either in the front of the case or at the bottom. We couldn’t fit our EK 240mm D-RGB AIO in the front since we’re using a Gigabyte RTX 3070 Ti Gaming OC, which is 12.5 inches (320 mm) long. I even tried mounting the AIO first, then installing the GPU, but that didn’t work either. I am running a 10900K with RTX 3070 Ti FE, on that case and my temperatures are pretty darn good. Normally my room temperatures are 68F to 70F. After running my PC for a little while, the room was at 73F. I ran a test and got about 51.5C on Average, with 70C holding most of the time and in some occasion jumping to 77C Max. My RTX 3070 Ti FE, was on Avg 55.8C and in some occasional hitting 81.5C Max. These are during spike, which last a second. I cannot pull these on the Corsair 680X using an AIO, which of course I had about almost the same low to idle temperatures when the computer was not in use of 27C-to-33C with the AIO while the air cooler was about 33C to 35C. Keep in mind the room was already warm so the air temperatures could be lower during idle if the system was not running.
