About this deal

Elite Series: Formerly called the “Classic Series,” this includes both the Elite USA and the Elite EXP. The Elite EXP are imported and only sold through third-party retailers.

PowerBlock Pro 100 EXP Adjustable Dumbbells - PowerBlock

Both are great dumbbells and actually very similar (you can choose depending on your aesthetic preferences).

It can’t do micro-adjustments of 2.5 lbs since it doesn’t have adder weights. However, it can still do 5 lb increments which are small enough for most exercises most of the time. Additionally, the handle is contoured in all the Elites and Pro, except for the Elite USA which has a straight handle. But who knows, maybe they add the Stage 4 for us in the future. At least for me, though, I’m still good with 90 lbs for my DB work. I save the heavy stuff for barbells 😀 I’ve tested both and they are the same (the Elite EXP being the most recently released version and the Elite USA being the older version). You’ll notice that some models in the chart below have different “stages” (i.e. Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3). What this means is that you can expand the weight capacity of the base dumbbell set (i.e. the Stage 1 set) with a Stage 2 expansion kit and then a Stage 3 expansion kit.

I’ll discuss a few other differences later, especially when it comes to comparing specific models against each other (e.g. Pro 50 vs Sport 50 or Pro 32 vs Sport 24). That said, the above are the most impactful differences. I’m already thoroughly familiar with PB dumbbells. Your article caught my eye and I’m always interested in reading others’ takes on equipment. Reply If you want the most comfortable heavy option, the Pro EXP is it. The urethane molding rounds out the edges of the underlying steel plates. This makes it more comfortable when you’re bringing the heavy dumbbells up and down to your thighs on shoulder/bench press. Same goes for when the dumbbells bump against you during regular use. In comparison, the paintwork on the Elites/Sports can chip if they’re abused, can scratch your tiled floor, and can be quite loud when they hit the floor. I’ve mentioned a couple times earlier which Pro Series and Sport Series models are expandable and which are non-expandable. However, I’ll summarize everything in this section so it’s all in one place. In comparison, the Elite USA and Pro 32 feature thinner handles. This measures 33mm on the Elite USA and 30mm on the Pro 32. The warranty covers manufacturer defects as well functional damage from normal use and drops from as high as 12 inches. Otherwise, the Sport Series and Pro Series function similarly and look similar as well (darker look, arched plate shape). Sport EXP
