Awesome book with lots to love! If you’re a fan of horror and/or you like a strange story you should definitely go for this! I highly recommend this one and can’t wait for the next volume!

I don’t think I consciously set out to sidestep any traditions or tropes. These are just two characters that I fell in love with and felt compelled to write. I’ve always enjoyed writing from an outsider’s point of view and Norton is the ultimate outsider. And in Fred there is a chance to create a richly layered character who has a complicated relationship with his own faith. Psychologically, there is a lot to work with in both characters for both Andrea and I and their stories drive the narrative, rather than creating a high-concept horror story and having the characters simply be there to react to things. This book has been addictive for many of us, largely because it has played off doubt and certainty for so long. Buying an issue of Gideon Falls is equal parts about buying the next chapter of a story and desperately hoping this is the puzzle piece you’ve been missing.

There’s a lot to admire about this series beyond the artwork as well. Lemire once again creates a twisted, somewhat fantastical, nightmarish reality in Gideon Falls. Something is always off putting, and nothing is ever quite as it seems. Sharp writing with good characters + a super unique & mystifying mystery at the beginning of the series. Pues bien, a cada número que pasa, esa sensación se hace más intensa. Y ahora, leídos veintiséis de los veintisiete números que compondrán la serie, esa sensación ya es casi una certeza absoluta. La serie se aleja cada vez más de su planteamiento inicial y experimenta un crescendo constante. Lo que comenzó en el siniestro granero de un pequeño pueblo ha acabado convirtiéndose en una trama muchísimo más elaborada y trascendental de lo que se podía esperar combinando distintos subgéneros por el camino. Mám rada tie jeho rodinné drámy, ale všetky sú na jedno kopyto a nebaví ma to isté stále čítať dokola. Namiesto toho toto ma naozaj baví. Bavia ma postavy, baví ma dej a kam sa to celé uberá, bavia ma všetky hororové prvky a scény, ktoré to ponúka. A čo mi naozaj lahodí, je kresba. To čo predvádza Sorrentino je totálne božské, niektoré stránky mi ešte od prvého čítania do detailu utkväli v pamäti. A niektoré tie panely sú totálna láska. Teším sa na koniec tejto série a som zvedavá, čo s tým toto duo spravilo. Stále platí 5/5

El año pasado Astiberri comenzó a publicar en nuestro país Gideon Falls. Una de las historias más interesantes y prometedoras de Jeff Lemire. Y una obra que obtuvo un más que merecido Premio Eisner a la mejor serie nueva en 2019. Para la ocasión, el guionista canadiense se alió con un viejo conocido como es Andrea Sorrentino. El maravilloso dibujante que con el que hace unos años trabajó en la serie Green Arrow, posteriormente en El viejo Logan y este mismo año en Joker: sonrisa asesina. Uno de los artistas con una visión más personal dentro del noveno arte actual y cuyo estilo encaja como anillo al dedo en el tono de la colección. Gideon plays a prominent role in the season finale, " Gideon Rises". He reveals the purpose of the journals, and tells his father (and the viewing audience) that he still requires the other one, 1. He steals 3 realizing that there are 3 journals. Thinking that Dipper is keeping 2 for himself he pursues the Pines twins (who were forced to leave town around this time) in a giant robot. He catches them and attempts to reclaim Mabel as his bride and almost succeeds. He is stopped at the last moment by Dipper, however, and the robot crashes after a brief skirmish in the control center. He attempts to have the Pines twins arrested, but Stan reveals the falsehood of Gideon's supposed powers: his special pins are hidden cameras. The scorned townsfolk turn on Gideon and arrest him, but not before Stan reclaims his deed and steals 2 from Gideon. Lemire always seems to team up with some of the most creative & exciting artists of the comic book world. This series, Gideon Falls, is no exception with its beautiful and haunting visuals by Sorrentino. Some of the best visual design I’ve seen in recent years is found between the covers of this deluxe edition. It looks great in the large format, but would benefit more from an oversized edition for sure. It is a huge relief when things that you have been working on privately for quite a while go out into the world and people respond to it. Though I must confess I always know that I am in good hands with Andrea. His work is so good and so interesting and so unique that I felt confident we had something special here. Holub, Christian. Lemire vuelve a retomar su gusto por los pueblos pequeños a la hora de situar sus tramas. En este caso, y teniendo en cuenta la temática y el tono, puede recordar mucho al gran Stephen King que siempre recurre a este tipo de entornos en sus novelas. Los dos tomos anteriores se han centrado en presentar personajes y empezar a colocar las primeras piezas de la trama de forma deliberadamente confusa para que no comprendamos del todo lo que está ocurriendo. Sin embargo, en este tercer volumen Lemire ya nos da muchas pistas de por donde van los tiros. Li'l Gideon's appearance is based on Benny Hinn, a famous Christian televangelist who claims to be a prophet.

The second thing that bothers me, I'm bored. When I know exactly what's happening and the characters don't, and when a significant portion of the plot regards the period between the characters noticing the fishy thing and then getting to the level of knowledge I am as a viewer, that's all boring time. It occurs to me to wonder whether Father Wilfred and Norton are even living in the same time period as each other. There almost seem to be two Gideon Falls. Wilfred seems to live in a smallish rural farming community. Lots of open spaces, fields, trees, an isolated church with no other buildings around it … Norton, on the other hand, definitely lives in a city. Tall buildings fairly close together, a city park with benches and streetlights and all, apartments and offices, elevated highways, and--according to a sign--a population of over 4 million. So they’re either the same place in different time periods--though the cars and fashions in Wilfred’s scenes don't feel that old--or Gideon Falls is the city and the Catholic Church is actually waaaay on the outskirts, probably in a nearby town--Gideon Falls Township or something like that. To put it in terms of where I live, Norton’s scenes feel like Ann Arbor, whereas Father Wilfred’s feel more like Saline or Milan. For unknown reasons, a rivalry has existed between Stan and Gideon for years. Business rivals to begin with, their rather competitive personalities fuel their feud further. Gideon wishes to eliminate Stan for numerous reasons, namely to take control of his business and a strange secret it possesses and to remove the "obstacle" to winning Mabel's affection, and he plots day and night to figure out a means of revenge, though he is sometimes satisfied with simply irritating Stan. Stan doubts Gideon's abilities and constantly teases him. the panelling, layout, framing, etc. is the best thing about this series. other graphic novels try to do something inventive with their layout but mainly just do different sized rectangles. this one really goes all out almost constantly.Nun Too Holy: Downplayed with Father Fred. He has drinking and assault and adultery under his belt, but he's genuinely penintent for his sins and wants to leave them in the past. We are in Harrow County, Rachel Rising and Outcast territory with Jeff Lemire, Andrea Sorrentino and Dave Stewarts's entry into the comics horror world. And like those other series (and many more we could name), we have a fight going for the soul of the town, an epic battle between Heaven and Hell. The central feature that distinguishes this from the others is not actually the great art, because all of the above series are exemplary in that category, but Sorrentino's art is indeed great, amazingly inventive with paneling and layouts. The team here is trying to capture a sense of madness, and evil, and Sorrentino does that through some of the most amazing visuals you will see out there. A small town desperate for help, the inhabitants get more than they bargained for in Father Wilfred, or “Fred,” an “untethered” priest with a drinking problem who arrives into the town as an outsider. Puede que suene repetitivo, pero es que Andrea Sorrentino y Dave Stewart vuelven a estar de diez en el tomo. No solo llevan manteniendo un gran nivel en toda la serie, sino que en este Gideon Falls 5 Mundos perversos con la trama del multiverso se ven con alas para experimentar más, algo que, de nuevo, bordan. La plasmación de distintas realidades interconectadas es algo que por las herramientas propias del medio se puede dar mejor en el cómic que en la literatura. Y los autores, conscientes de ello, lo llevan a cotas muy altas. Para ello utilizan las mismas composiciones de página y de viñeta que llevan mostrando desde el principio y las combinan con los distintos escenarios dando momentos verdaderamente brillantes que ejemplifican esa unión de Tierras. Kind of a trippy story with a strong horror vibe, and I've got to admit, liked it more than I thought I would.
