About this deal

The majority of the record is centred on the concept of a superhero, known as "The Grey Lantern", in the guise of Draper himself. Having spent my formative years going to [nightclubs] Cream in Liverpool and the Hacienda in Manchester, this really ignited my love for dance music, and ‘Egg Shaped Fred’ was one of our early tracks where we’d jam our distorted guitars over drum loops from an AKAI S900 sampler.

Never did get to see them live before they split, which is a real shame because I've heard that they put on a great live show. It's Kscope 1175 and is the usual 12 songs ( 11 standard tracks with 6 on side one and the usual 5 plus the " hidden track" making a total of 6) but only on one 12" record. I remember being off my tits in Ibiza when Paul Oakenfold’s ‘Wide Open Space’ remix came on in Pacha and it blew me away.Created in May 2008 to provide a home for the growing post-progressive genre and an evolving, flexible and adventurous style of music without boundaries. I wouldn't have a cape, but there are definitely characters on the record – Albert Taxloss, Chad, Dark Mavis. Inside it says remastered in 2018 by Jon Astley, all I can see written(stamped I meant) on the dead wax is side1:- 237358E1/ A, and side 2:- 237358E2/B with no other tell tale marks or logos anywhere, ok my eyesight is bad but I did this with my 3 x readers on lol ! It was complex to work out how to piece all this together, like a jigsaw, but great fun, the mastering engineer didn’t think so though. They released four classic albums – Attack of the Grey Lantern (1997), Six (1998), Little Kix (2000) and the compilation Kleptomania following the band’s split – as well as a popular and now rare series of EPs.

Listening back to the lyrics I’m reeling off characters from the fictitious small northern town where the album is set, ‘Skinima Nosebreak’ ‘Fatima Toothpaste’ ‘Penelope Cheapskate’ ‘Claudia Farmgate’, not your average lyric for the era really and still makes me chuckle to this day that something so absurd hit No. The following three singles ("Stripper Vicar", " Wide Open Space", " She Makes My Nose Bleed") all made the top forty each improving of the previous singles' chart position.I remember being slightly off my tits in Ibiza when Paul Oakenfold’s remix came on in Pacha and it blew me away. After we added the strings to the beginning of the track it started to sound like a James Bond theme, so we changed its title to something slightly more humorous. Although this song sat neatly with the narrative of the plot, I thought I’d challenge my own rule on this song, I remember the chorus being really emotional, and it still feels like that now. My fondest memory of this track is playing all the instruments on it and being delighted with my drum take that I’d done in one go.
