About this deal

A mystery band will take to Glastonbury's famous Pyramid Stage on Friday night. Festival fans were sent into a frenzy trying to work out who it will be, but it seems we now have an answer. Aside from The Churnups’ set, there are multiple ‘TBA’ slots on the Glastonbury 2023 line-up – the most prominent being two on the Woodsies stage (Friday, June 23 at 7:30pm BST, and Saturday, June 24 at 6pm BST). Here's where it gets interesting - according to the Seattle Times, Dave Grohl was once part of a band called Churn in his teens. A band called Churn... a band turning up unexpectedly at Glastonbury... The Churnups ! The ChurnUps have no digital presence but have been given a top slot on the Pyramid Stage on Friday, June 23. The band is set to play in between Texas and Royal Blood from 6.15pm until 7.30pm. A wildcard theory is that The Churnups could be a supergroup. This could potentially contain a selection of musicians from the bands named above.

The name "The Churnups" also appears to indicate a mix of sorts. This could mean a mix of different artists. But nobody really knows Fans were convinced Pulp would be returning to Glastonbury Festival this year when they announced a big reunion tour. The band are touring the UK throughout the summer, and have the whole Glastonbury week free.Glastonbury Festival is famous for staging secret sets on smaller stages like the John Peel Stage and the Park Stage. So to put the Churnups on the main Pyramid Stage seems to indicate that the act is very popular and the festival is expecting a large audience to be interested in watching the show. Graham Coxon (left) and Damon Albarn (right) of Blur perform on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival 2009 Foo Fighters have previously played under a different name in 2014. They performed a tiny secret gig in front of 600 people as The Holy Sh*ts. Since the full schedule was revealed at the end of May, people have been sharing their theories about who the mystery act will be - and there are some options that seem more plausible than others. The Foos – who have previously played surprise gigs under the moniker The Holy Shits – have space in their schedule to make a return to Glastonbury as it stands. They headlined the event in 2017, after being forced to cancel their appearance two years prior.

Blur's guitarist, Graham Coxon, is part of another band called Waeve. Shortly after the Glastonbury announcement of The Churnups, a Waeve gig in Ireland was rescheduled from Friday June 23 to Sunday June 25 due to "scheduling conflicts". This seems highly suspicious. A frenzy of wild speculation has been unleashed among music fans after a band that doesn't exist was revealed on the line-up for the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival 2023. "The Churnups" will perform on the main stage on Friday June 23, but there is no record of any band with that name, and this has sparked a flood of rumours and conjecture online. There are also some very dubious rumours swirling on social media that Foo Fighters have booked a hotel in Bristol around the time of Glastonbury. These rumours appear to have started prior to the announcement of The Churnups, although we would take this with a large pinch of salt. Wildcard theory - a supergroup?Pulp is currently embarking on a UK reunion tour and has a gap in their schedule around the time of Glastonbury, which this year is from June 21 to 25. Many Glastonbury fans remarked that the set was longer than it usually is in that slot at an hour and 15 minutes.

Glastonbury Festival 2023: Elton John promises to bring special guests for his 'different' Pyramid Stage show They aren't strangers to a secret set at Worthy Farm either. They appeared in an unannounced slot on the Park Stage in 2011.Pulp are one of the most heavily mentioned names. They are another Britpop heavyweight, with well-known songs like Common People and Disco 2000, and they performed at Glastonbury in their heyday in 1995 and 1998.

Glastonbury Festival has not revealed any details about the mysterious band. However, many people are theorising that The Churnups are a massive act hiding behind a fake name. Alex James, another member of Blur, is famous for making cheese. Some people have linked this cheesy business with the word churn - but churning isn't particularly linked with cheese-making, you churn milk to make butter. There's a link to the name The Churnups as well. It could be argued that you churn something up to make pulp. However, it could also be argued that to produce pulp you need more of a grinding, smashing or blending action. This is certainly plausible. And it would make sense with the mystery band specifically given a new name, rather than just listed on the line-up as "TBA".Glastonbury Festival 2023 full line-up schedule revealed with detailed breakdown of stages and set times Curiously, ‘Over And Out’ is the title of a 2005 song by Foo Fighters – whose name has also been associated with The Churnups. Some fans online have unearthed a 2021 Seattle Times article in which it’s said that frontman Dave Grohl used to be in a band called ‘Churn’. Having said all that, nobody really knows who The Churnups are. They could be something completely different and unexpected. In addition, 2023 marks 25 years since Foo Fighters first performed at Glasto – on the same day and in the same slot as The Churnups are billed.
