About this deal

Things of course won't scale perfectly, but the 4090 does have more than twice as many GPU shaders, Tensor cores, RT cores, etc. It also has exactly twice as much memory and memory bandwidth, but only 50% more L2 cache. There will be workloads — stuff like AI training and inference comes to mind — where the card that costs twice as much will deliver twice the performance while consuming twice as much power. But we'll get to the benchmarks soon enough. Power use is a strong point for Nvidia's Ada Lovelace architecture. The RTX 4090 might have a high 450W maximum TGP (Total Graphics Power) rating, but there are plenty of games where it will use under 400W. That's still a lot, but not actually that bad when you consider the performance level. All of the Nvidia RTX 40-series GPUs have better efficiency than any of the AMD GPUs, with the RTX 4080 topping the charts for 1440p gaming. (Note that the fps in the table gives weighting to the 1% low FPS, where the gallery images only use average fps.) The Zotac card gets 0.359 FPS/W, slightly below the 0.367 FPS/W of the Asus 4070 Ti. Among the new cards we’ve tested, the RTX 4070 Ti is one of the most efficient. Its idle power is slightly higher, though this could have been caused by the CPU not idling down quite all the way. The power consumption in FurMark and Guardians of the Galaxy is much more indicative of how much power the card is pulling, and there’s no question that in these tests it uses less power than the RTX 4080 and the RX 7900 XT.

For as long as I can remember, I've had love of all things tech, spurred on, in part, by a love of gaming. I began working on computers owned by immediate family members and relatives when I was around 10 years old. I've always sought to learn as much as possible about anything PC, leading to a well-rounded grasp on all things tech today. In my role at PCMag, I greatly enjoy the opportunity to share what I know. It's also noteworthy that the Zotac card doesn't typically even hit 285W. Across our 15-game test suite, the highest power draw we measured during our tests was just under 280W, and quite a few games used less than 250W — including Spider-Man™: Miles Morales, which only needed 225W at 4K on average. Zotac RTX 4070 Ti Test Setup The only downside is that, like every high-end card right now, it is still quite expensive and not as powerful as AMD alternatives when it comes to rasterization. Zotac has teamed up with the new Spider-Man™: Across the Spider-Verse movie in a campaign to try and attract additional interest. That's understandable, considering sales of dedicated graphics cards are currently at their lowest point in decades. Too bad there's no Spider-Man™: Across the Spider-Verse game to go along with the movie, as the last couple of Spider-Man™ games have been quite good. The Zotac RTX 4070 Ti does have a decent amount of RGB lighting, with a large "holographic" strip across the top that lights up. The default lighting scheme isn't great, though: It will show blue-green stripes for a minute or two, flash red a couple of times, and then go dark for a few seconds. Or maybe our sample is just a bit glitchy? You can of course change the lighting with Zotac's Firestorm software. There's plenty of heatsink fins, with five heatpipes running through them, to provide sufficient cooling. Again, this is a 285W graphics card, so compared to the 320W to 450W models that have been floating around for the past couple of years, it doesn't need an extreme cooling setup. The RTX 4070 Ti GPU with its dual AV1 NVIDIA Encoders is an excellent GPU to stream all your favourite titles . What display outputs does a RTX 4070 Ti GPU have? Our initial review of the RTX 4070 Ti looked at performance across all resolutions and settings that we normally test (1080p medium, 1080p ultra, 1440p ultra, and 4K ultra). It also had professional and AI benchmarks, and performance results with upscaling including DLSS 3. For third-party cards like the Zotac RTX 4070 Ti, we'll limit our testing to 1080p/1440p/4K ultra, without looking at the other workloads — everything should be relatively similar margins as the gaming results. Besides all the usual graphics hardware, Nvidia's latest Ada Lovelace GPUs have a few extras. AMD still doesn't have a Tensor core equivalent — its AI Accelerators share the same execution units as the GPU shaders — which means in FP16 workloads the 4070 Ti has potentially triple the throughput of the RX 7900 XT. And for AI inference work that can leverage the FP8 hardware, Nvidia doubles performance yet again.

Just as important is a look at the wider GPU market that the RTX 4070 Ti competes within. The next step up from Nvidia is the RTX 4080, priced a significant 50% higher. That's a big jump, at which point you could probably talk yourself into going whole hog and buying an RTX 4090. There's also the enhanced Optical Flow Accelerator (OFA), which powers the DLSS 3 algorithm and may be used for other video related tasks. Nvidia says that over 50 games with DLSS 3 are in the works, with about 15 currently available. Even better news is that every one of those games with DLSS 3 also supports DLSS 2 and Reflex, which means anyone with an RTX card can benefit — just not with Frame Generation.

The Overclockers Difference

Zotac’s Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Amp Extreme Airo also remains quite cool during the FurMark test, hitting just 49 degrees C. We ran a separate thermal test during the F1 22 2K test that shows the card can hit a peak temperature of 67 degrees C, which is exceptional. To be clear, the full name of the card we're reviewing is Zotac Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti: Amp Airo — part of the Spider-Man™: Across the Spider-Verse inspired graphics card bundles line. Wherever we refer to the Zotac RTX 4070 Ti going forward, that's the card we're talking about. The minimum power recommended for a PC utilising an RTX 4070 Ti is 700W, although we recommend a higher wattage PSU for comfortable overhead. Alongside this, we also recommend utilising a ATX 3.0 PSU, which natively supports 12V power delivery. You’ll also require 2x PCIe 8-pin connectors OR a PCIe Gen 5 16-pin 12VHPWR cable. Can I stream games with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti? We've mentioned before that Nvidia appears to be attempting to stretch out the range of performance offered with the RTX 40-series, and the same thing happened with the RTX 30-series. From the fastest to slowest RTX 20-series GPU, the RTX 2080 Ti was about double the performance of the RTX 2060. Meanwhile, last generation's RTX 3090 Ti was three times as fast as the RTX 3050. At present, we don't even have a vanilla RTX 4070, never mind a future RTX 4050, and we're already looking at potentially double the performance from the bigger and more expensive RTX 4090.

I bought the Zotac GeForce RTX 4070Ti Trinity graphics card for my new build and I’m very happy with it. It has a bad rep for simply being another expensive step in the no-mans-land between AMD and the 4090, but if you need or want an Nvidia card (and you have a 1440p setup), the 4070ti is actually a great choice for the price, paying less per-frame than you are with the 4080 and 4090.
