About this deal

We do wish it had a lower fan speed to keep the noise levels down but, having said that, this isn’t all that different from most air conditioners at around this price. MeacoCool MC 7000: Is it energy-efficient? Meaco is a popular British company that specialises in air cooling and air treatment appliances for the home and office. You can read more about the company and some of its products by zipping over to our Dyson vs Meaco guide. The company has produced quite a few portable air-con appliances to date, but this model is its most powerful, and that makes it a shoo-in for keeping you chilled while all around you melt in the furnace.

Introducing the brand new range of MeacoCool portable air conditioners perfect for home and office use providing personal comfort during the summer months.READ NEXT: The best portable air conditioners top buy today MeacoCool MC 7000: Key specifications and price This increased by approximately five decibels when the fan speed was increased to High speed. Energy use All MeacoCool air conditioning units come with a 3 year exclusive warranty only available from Air Con Centre for ease of mind when purchasing. Like all air con units, when in Cool Mode the air duct needs to be positioned out of the window so you’ll just need to make sure it’s positioned close enough to a window to do this.

We know it’s annoying to have to keep fiddling with your air conditioner units to get the temperature just right. We’ve added some great features to the MeacoCool range, to help you create the best environment for work, play or sleep. Our units are perfect for the areas in your home that get the hottest – conservatories, glass-roofed kitchen extensions, bedrooms, home offices and home gyms or exercise rooms. And they’re just as good in an office environment where you need to keep people comfortable to help them work productively. Larger spaces need effective air conditioning and that’s what you get with the MeacoCool 10000. Specifically designed to cool bigger areas, this unit is fully portable, and has an Energy Rating of A, making it easy on your household or office bills. The fact that one of the drainage hose outlets was positioned midway down the rear of the unit made it much easier to drain than alternative models I've tested in which the outlet is much lower down. I put the Dry Mode to use on a very muggy rainy day and noticed an almost immediate improvement in the moisture levels in the room. Alas, the weather hasn’t been particularly warm during the test period so I can’t give more accurate details than this yet, but it’s a good sign that the unit managed to keep rooms cool even without the installation of a window kit. The sleep mode is one of the reasons why customers love the MeacoCool range: it reduces both the fan speed and the noise level, making sure that you can sleep well even on the warmest nights. And the useful remote control allows you to adjust the unit whenever you need to.

Design-wise, the MeacoCool MC Series 7000BTU Portable Air Conditioner looks pretty good when assembled, although it does have a bit more going on visually than other models we tested and I wouldn't say style was one of the key elements of its designNoise-wise, we found the Meaco Portable Air Conditioner slightly louder than the more powerful (and more expensive) AEG Comfort 6000 Portable Air Conditioner and Russell Hobbs RHPAC11001 Portable Air Conditioner, but only marginally so, and it could well be worth putting up with a little more volume in return for the cheaper investment. As mentioned, this unit is also very lightweight compared to most portable air con units we've tested. The flipside of that is that the build quality does feels slightly flimsier than some alternative units I've tested. The Fan mode is the next in sequence and that’s self explanatory, which leaves one more option: Heat. This is a strange one because it seems to follow the same parameters as the Cool mode, with a temperature range from 16˚C to 32˚C. I set it to 32˚C and it didn’t seem to do anything more than blow air that was roughly the same temperature as the room, about 21˚C. The upshot is that if you want to keep warm, buy a proper blow heater. However, when it comes to portable air-con, size most definitely matters. And besides, in the pantheon of household and office coolers it’s actually not that bad a looker. Yes it comes in hospital white livery, but it’s also aesthetically simple with rounded corners and therefore slightly inconspicuous – if you don’t glance in its direction. What I’m trying to say is that there are much uglier looking units out there.
